A reputed Klansman who plotted in 1966 to kill civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in Mississippi has died, one of his lawyers said on Wednesday. Ernest Avants, 72, died on Monday of complications from heart disease in a prison in Fort Worth, Texas, said Tom Royals, who defended the white supremacist at a murder trial in Jackson, Mississippi last year. 'He had been very ill and in and out of hospital ever since he was charged,' Royals said."
