Belfast Telegraph: Academic defends his Red Hand remarks
The Scottish Academic who complained about Zoe Salmon's use of the Red Hand of Ulster in Blue Peter today moved to clarify his comments.
David Miller, Professor of Sociology, at Strathclyde University had come under fire from Unionists when he said that the Red Hand had been misappropriated in the same way as the Swastika.
He had complained to the BBC when Zoe, a former Miss Northern Ireland from Bangor, suggested that the symbol would make a good choice for a new Airline Livery design in a children's competition. Former Lord Mayor of Belfast Jim Rodgers described any comparison of the Swastika and the Red Hand as "outrageous"
