Misguided bomb planter or humanitarian community doctor. That's what a Pretoria High Court judge will have to decide when he rules on the bail application of one of the 22 Boeremag treason trial accused. The prosecution told the court on Tuesday it had "damning evidence" against Mokopane medical doctor Johan Pretorius Jr, linking him to a fanatical right-wing plot to overthrow the government and to a series of bomb explosions while he and some of his co-accused were on the run from police in 2002. There was also evidence linking Pretorius to a plot to kill former president Nelson Mandela, the state said. Pretorius' father, Dr Lets Pretorius, was granted bail on appeal earlier this year, and his two brothers Willem and Kobus abandoned their bid to secure bail on Monday. The medic is presently applying for bail with Herman van Rooyen, Rudi Gouws and Gerhardus "Vis" Visagie.
