CNN.com - Youths jailed for racist murders - May 11, 2005
A Russian court on Wednesday sentenced six young men to up to 19 years in jail for racist murders, a type of violence that the United Nations has said is on the increase in Russia.
The six young men -- three of whom were minors at the time they carried out a series of attacks that included three murders -- were also each ordered to pay damages of around $8,000 to their victims' families, local media reported. "All members of the group were incriminated for crimes motivated by racial hatred and animosity," Interfax news agency quoted the prosecutors' office as saying.
