Haaretz - Israel News - Police tracking families of WWII Stuttgart mass grave victims
The Israel Police estimated Sunday that the families of 20 inmates from a Nazi-era forced labor camp, located in a suburb of Stuttgart, now live in Israel.
This preliminary estimate is based on evidence collected in an investigation of a mass grave uncovered two months ago during construction work at a U.S. Army base at an airport in the town of Echterdingen. German authorities believe the 34 skeletons that were found are the remains of victims of the labor camp, which operated there for two months. Local police officials are approaching possible relatives in Israel, seeking DNA samples to compare to those from the remains.
