Local News: Hate crime shocks synagogue
Suspects start car fire, yell epithet, threaten temple worker with gun
Brevard County sheriff's investigators are searching for three men who waved a gun at a Temple Beth Sholom administrator and shouted an epithet Sunday as they drove near the synagogue entrance. The hate crime happened about 8:30 a.m. as the administrator walked to his car, smelled smoke coming from his trunk and called 9-1-1 for help. Police did not identify the victim.
The location of the incident, coupled with the racial epithet used prompted a sheriff's homeland security investigator to respond. It was the fourth incident in the last three months involving a house of worship in Brevard County. But none of the other cases has been classified a hate crime because they mostly involved graffiti on buildings.
