Expatica — Grim job market fuels rightwing parties
Growing job insecurity and employment inequalities are contributing to the electoral success of right-wing populist and extremist parties in Europe, a European Commission- funded study showed. The study, covering eight European countries - Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Switzerland - and based on more than 300 interviews and a telephone survey of 5,800 employed persons, said people who faced frustrations in their jobs due to deteriorating work conditions, precarious employment and low income were likely to be more attracted by xenophobia and right-wing extremism.
