'Bullets, bombs, bloodshed and the Bible'

Audio surveillance tapes were the centerpiece Thursday of the federal government's case against David Wayne Hull, the Amwell Township Ku Klux Klan leader on trial in U.S. District Court for violating federal firearms laws. U.S. Assistant District Attorney Margaret E. Picking called John Peter Carmelo III to the stand Wednesday afternoon and his direct testimony carried throughout Thursday. Hull, 41, of 425 Shipe Run Road, is charged with possession, manufacture and transfer of pipe bomb components and related charges. Carmelo, of Montgomery County, for a short time belonged to the Keystone Knights of the KKK, acting as a security guard for a Klan leader. FBI agents employed him as a confidential informant for the past few years to infiltrate white supremacist groups operating in eastern Pennsylvania. He later converted to a cooperating witness during the FBI's investigation of Hull and his associates.
