Leeds Today - New suit, same vile racism

The British National Party still harbours neo-Nazi apologists, hardened criminals and racists THE tall, crop-haired young man spoke quickly and clearly, reeling off a seemingly unstoppable stream of ideas and opinions. Apparently oblivious to the fact that his words would appal all but the most misguided Britons, he talked with the calm intensity of the fanatic, the zealot. However, his reasoned tones did little to mask his admiration for Nazi Germany, his anti-semitic prejudices, his repellent views on blacks and gays. Meet Mark Collett – the extremist who proved that, away from the suits and slick speeches, hate still courses through the veins of the British National Party. Two years ago the former Leeds University student's beliefs were infamously brought to national attention by Channel 4. Millions watched as Collett, then the leader of the BNP's youth wing, bragged: 'Hitler will live forever, and maybe I will.' Outbursts At other points in the programme, entitled Young, Nazi and Proud, the aspiring politician proudly said: 'I'm going to level with you. I'd never say this on camera, the Jews have been thrown out of every country, including England. 'When it happens so many times it's not just persecution. There's no smoke without fire.'"
