New York Daily News - Boroughs - Sensitivity class for bias thug
A Bronx Neo-Nazi who recruited youths to slap swastikas and anti-Semitic stickers on Jewish centers, synagogues and other places in the Bronx and Westchester is going to get a much-needed education. Thomas Zibelli, a 34-year-old security guard, pleaded guilty to reduced charges - as hate crimes - in both jurisdictions last week to escape jail time.
Instead, when he comes up for sentencing, he's expected to be placed on five years' probation and ordered to attend "ethnic sensitivity classes." Authorities said Zibelli admitted recruiting youths from his working-class Morris Park neighborhood to put stickers featuring swastikas and racist slogans on Fleetwood Synagogue and a nearby Metro-North train station in Westchester last Aug. 14, and the Throggs Neck Jewish Center in the Bronx two weeks later.
Zibelli, a member of the neo-Nazi National Alliance, has Nazi Iron Crosses tattooed on his chest and ankle. He said he wanted "to intimidate the Jews and make Jewish people afraid," authorities said.
