Gay News From 365Gay.com: Protest To Counter KKK Anti-Gay Rally

An LGBT civil rights group will hold a vigil to protest Saturday's Ku Klux Klan anti-gay-marriage rally in Austin, Texas. No Nonsense in November said they are planning a peaceful counter demonstration. "We will speak for ourselves and not engage the Klan in their rhetoric," No Nonsense leader Glen Maxey tells the Houston Chronicle. "It will be a peaceful, nonviolent demonstration." Police Tuesday said they will take no chances the two protests will get out of control. The city last week granted a request by the white supremacist Klan for space on the plaza outside City Hall. No Nonsense in November will be allowed to hold its counter protest on a bridge in the middle of Town Lake, about half a block away. The group also has scheduled a Sunday rally at the Texas Capitol. The American White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan have also pledged that its rally will be peaceful, but warned counter protesters could attempt to provoke violence. "Our speech will not be inflammatory," the Klan said in its request for permission to use the plaza, "but we all know the reputation of the name of the KKK, so we expect anti-Klan demonstrators to be there who may become violent. We certainly don't want any of our people hurt nor any city officials. We just want to come and encourage people to vote for Christian Family Values and against legalized homosexual marriage in the state of Texas."
