News Story | Serbia: Neo-Nazis stab youth in heart

After bursting and threatening participants at an anti-fascist gathering in Novi Sad, a skin-head group instigated a massive brawl at a concert later that evening that resulted in a brutal stabbing in the heart of a 20 year old Nikola Trkulja and injuries to 4 other youths. Doctors that immediately treated Trkulja have since taken him off the breathing tubes and are saying that he is in a stable condition. Indications are that Trkulja will survive the stabbing. Serbian public is outraged over the incident and are blaming the political leadership for inadequate response to a growing skinhead problem in the Serbian northern province of Vojvodina. "Behavior of these groups says that our society is infected with hatred," says Pajtic who was among the participants at the anti-fascist gathering that was threatened by the skinhead group. Participants at the gathering are also blaming the police for a slow response to an urgent call to help restore order.
