Daily Herald | Lake County: Nazi salute brings charges against man visiting court
A Berwyn man was arrested inside a Lake County courtroom Thursday after police said he made a Nazi salute in the direction of a defendant. Richard Mayers, 20, is charged with disorderly conduct and contempt of court for the incident in Circuit Judge Fred Foreman’s courtroom. It occurred during the arraignment of two men police say are skinhead Nazis charged with beating and robbing two women.
The hearing for one of the defendants, Patrick Langballe, 29, had just finished. Mayers, seated in the front row, raised his right arm, palm down, in Langballe’s direction. When Langballe did not react, police said, Mayers stood and said “Hey, Pat,” and offered the salute a second time.
Mayers was wearing a T-shirt bearing the words “Hitler’s World Tour” and an image of the Nazi dictator making the same salute.
